What is the MV Saint Malo?

The MV Saint-Malo is Brittany Ferries’ newest cruise ferry, launched in February 2025. She is the primary vessel on the overnight Portsmouth to St Malo route and the company’s first hybrid-LNG ship, combining liquefied natural gas propulsion with electric battery power for lower emissions. Built to the Stena E-Flexer design, the 10-deck vessel carries up to 1,310 passengers and 470 cars, with a gross tonnage of 30,000 GT. She offers two restaurants, a premium CClub Lounge, Exhibition Gallery, wellness room, sun deck, and 386 cabins across 6 grades.

For the premium experience, Deck 8 has the Breizh ma Bro bar, Le Jardin restaurant, and CClub Lounge (forward port) — Commodore cabins here also include Les 8 Trésors lounge access and a complimentary breakfast. Is the MV Saint Malo the same as the old Saint-Malo ferry?

No. The MV Saint Malo is a completely new ship, built in 2024 and entering service in February 2025. She replaced the much-loved MV Bretagne — which served the route since 1989 — and represents a significant step forward in size, passenger facilities, and environmental performance. She is not to be confused with the earlier Brittany Ferries ship of the same name that operated on this route in previous decades.

Does the MV Saint Malo have a cinema?

No. The MV Saint Malo does not have onboard cinemas — those are a feature of the Armorique, which covers some early-season sailings. How long is the crossing on the MV Saint Malo?

The overnight sailing from Portsmouth departs at approximately 20:15 and arrives in St Malo at approximately 08:15 — a crossing of around 10–11 hours. The daytime return sailing from St Malo to Portsmouth takes a similar length of time. A cabin is compulsory on the overnight Portsmouth departure but optional on the daytime return.
